Office Sports Talk

It’s been said that people use sports terminology a lot in the workplace. Especially women in an effort to gain entry into the “boys only” clubs – in fields such as law or medicine.

Sports lingo has become a part of everyday language, this is true. Expressions like “taking one for the team” have become commonplace, even relating to dating.

But, there is one phrase that I can’t stand. I guess because of its meaning. Because it means I fucked up…

“You dropped the ball (on this one).”

I hate that with a passion.

And, unfortunately I heard it today.

I try not to be hard on myself when I mess something up at work, things happen and people make mistakes. I know that. Nobody is perfect. And, it’s not like I mess up all that often.

It still burns me when I get in trouble, and that sports-related phrase just makes my blood boil and puts me in a bad mood.

And so, I worked late-ish, and then ended up in a funk and being a bitch and missing out on Chase and Law-Rah’s fab birthday celebration – where I heard all the DC Blog A-listers were out partying it up.

I’m such a failure.
